cleaning carpet piedmont triadNow that we are all spending more time at home, there is more time to work on at-home projects. Whether that’s shopping for new flooring, or maintaining the floors you already have, our experts at Floor Coverings International Triad are here to help. Do you have some stubborn carpet stains you’ve been avoiding? Are you looking for tips on how to clean your floors? Now is the time to tackle those stains! Here are a few carpet cleaning hacks recommended by our flooring experts here at Floor Coverings International Triad.

Pro Tip: Don’t Rub The Stain

One of the most important rules when cleaning carpet flooring is to avoid rubbing stains. Rubbing the stained area is the last thing you want to do, as it causes the stain to dig deeper into the carpet fiber. Dabbing and blotting stains is the best technique to use when attempting to clean a carpet stain. Another quick tip is to make sure you start at the outside of the stain and work your way in. This method works well to avoid spreading the stain even further.

Common Household Cleaners

Since we’re all spending more time at home and leaving the house might not be an option, it is important to be aware of some common cleaners you probably already have right in your own home! There are a few different cleaner options you can test out, including:

  • Soap
  • Baking soda
  • Laundry detergent
  • Salt
  • Vinegar

These are some of the most common at-home cleaning options that you can try before having to resort to store-bought solutions.

So, how should you use these? Well, first you will want to lightly sprinkle salt and baking soda on the stain until it is fully covered. We recommend mixing hot water and either soap or vinegar into a spray bottle and spraying this mixture directly onto the stain. You don’t need to completely soak the carpet, you just need to spray enough to coat the area.

What About Larger Stains?

If you need to clean a larger carpeted area in your home, these at-home hacks might not be the best solution. While these cleaners might work for spot cleaning, we recommend using something a little more powerful if you’ve got a larger stain to clean.
